Catching up with family

On Wednesday my dad left town after visiting for a week. He usually resides in the Philippines these days so it was good to see him again and catch up, which I could only do at nights since I had full time work then training on most days. I took him out to lunch and dinner and to see some of Brisbane. Sunday we went up to Kangaroo Point and took a little walk around Captain Burke Park where I had my Birthday BBQ. It was hot as a mofo but the scenery and setting made it pleasant.

I brought my DSLR along and took a few snaps… definitely need to get a new lens for it as the one I’ve got is dying a slow death. The afternoon would have been perfect if only I had a blanket to lay down on and have a nap on the grass.

Also in town are my aunties from my mum’s side. My aunty from Darwin is here because her kidney health has deteriorated to the stage where she needs a kidney transplant. And who better to donate than her own sister; my aunty from the US. Needless to say my aunty from the US is an amazing and generous person making such a sacrifice even if it is family. The operation was on Thursday and it went well. They both looked a bit groggy of course, when I went to visit them but the first thing my aunty from the US asked my mum when she got out was, how was the other sister doing? Now if that’s not selflessness in it’s best example I don’t know what is.

Along for support are their husbands, my uncles, and my cousin from Darwin. So it’s a nice little reunion of sorts. They’re all staying in an apartment across the road from the hospital which, I think, has partly been subsidised by the Kidney Support Network.

Dinner with my dad and the family

It’s always nice catching up with family especially those you don’t see often. I always remind myself that life is short and you could unexpectedly be gone at any time. So I do appreciate the simple things in life like lunch/dinner with the family and enjoy listening to the conversations between siblings and some of the old stories they have to tell.

Well that’s what’s been keeping me out of the blogging sphere of late. Hope to have more updates soon, but it might be a busy weekend doing more catch ups with the family and some friends in town. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Peace!
