First Week of training done

It feels like some of the hard part is out of the way by just getting back into training. But I know there’s going to be more tough times ahead since some of the guys are preparing for fights which means everyone else will be grappling dummies/sparring partners.

Michael Mortimer will be fighting on Legends in February as will Matt Cain. And since I’m about Michael’s weight I think I’ll be training a lot with him. I’m looking forward to it though because as he’s getting sharp and ready for his fight I’ll be building up and sharpening on my skills as well.

Slowly getting there

Last week was mainly just trying to get back into the feel and rhythm of things. My fitness isn’t as good as it was (same with everyone else who had a break)… I can still push through a bit but not as much as I’d want. Also my timing and rhythm are a beat behind. It’s like you can see your opponents attacks but react a split second too late or you see an opening but miss the window to capitalize on it.

That will all come back in time and I hope to be feeling sharp and back to normal by the end of the month.

My elbow is holding out good. I’ll start doing some weights to gain some strength and stability in the joints AND just because I’m smaller guy and need all the strength I can get against bigger guys. But I have to admit I’m feeling lazy after our classes to put in for another workout. Bleh toughen up princess.

My goal last week for most days was simply: Survive. My goal for this week will be the same but I’ll also add: Improve. Which could simply mean getting hit less, or caught less in bad positions and being more of the aggressor. I figured if I keep my goals simple they’ll be easier to achieve and can build up on each other.

I hope that everyone else is enjoying their training and the challenges they face as much as I do. Peace!
